The last two weeks have been BUSY! Students are staying focused and excited about learning even with the extra sun. Outdoor School is right around the corner. If you have not given consent for your child to attend please join us on Tuesday May 23 at 12:05 or 5:00pm for a brief meeting.
It is hard to believe how quickly the school year has gone by. On May 5th, 2017 we had our official school opening and the students practiced during the weeks leading up to the big event in order to perfect their performances. It was a day to celebrate the new school and the culture of our school. You could see the pride of the faces of the students. Please find attached a snapshot of our week together beyond the opening.
A recap of our week can be found attached.
April 18th, 2017 was an exciting day for our class. Students had the opportunity to share their work and even teach the younger students in our school and their parents. Thank you to all those who attended! Check out our Uncovering Canada website! Please find the past two weeks at a glance attached below.
We had a very busy first week back after the break! Robotics, Cubelets and recording our podcasts has filled our days with problem solving and collaboration. Please check out the past two weeks in the attached documents.
Our grade 6 students have embarked on an exciting adventure. Becoming engineers, the students have been tasked with building and programming the latest EV3 Lego Mindstorms robots. They have started with a series of challenges which will help them hone their skills. Turning to mathematics as a tool in order to program precision movements the students are deepening their understanding of problem solving and collaboration. Our grade 5 students have been working with the kindergarten students to help design our Learning Commons and Makerspace. Currently they are utilizing Cubelets and Little bits in order to learn about programming and circuitry. Check out the video below to see our sharing of challenges and successes. Here is a clip of the first 2 scenes from our Evergreen Theatre performance. Sadly we had technical difficulties and we were unable to film the entire performance. Students are continuing to develop their understanding of Sky Science through research and observation. Writing has been an important mode of communication this past week. We have just posted our latest drafts of our Writer's Workshop writing to our book walls in our classroom. Students have turned to this wall for our silent reading blocks, excitedly reading and responding to each other's creations. We have also been working tirelessly to create scripts from our research about a topic in Canadian history. As always please check out the attached document for more on our past week.
