Our grade 6 students have embarked on an exciting adventure. Becoming engineers, the students have been tasked with building and programming the latest EV3 Lego Mindstorms robots. They have started with a series of challenges which will help them hone their skills. Turning to mathematics as a tool in order to program precision movements the students are deepening their understanding of problem solving and collaboration. Our grade 5 students have been working with the kindergarten students to help design our Learning Commons and Makerspace. Currently they are utilizing Cubelets and Little bits in order to learn about programming and circuitry. Check out the video below to see our sharing of challenges and successes. Here is a clip of the first 2 scenes from our Evergreen Theatre performance. Sadly we had technical difficulties and we were unable to film the entire performance. Students are continuing to develop their understanding of Sky Science through research and observation. Writing has been an important mode of communication this past week. We have just posted our latest drafts of our Writer's Workshop writing to our book walls in our classroom. Students have turned to this wall for our silent reading blocks, excitedly reading and responding to each other's creations. We have also been working tirelessly to create scripts from our research about a topic in Canadian history. As always please check out the attached document for more on our past week.
We had such an exciting week with Evergreen Theatre. Students collaboratively researched and wrote the script for their performance. The performance on Friday was outstanding as students jumped out of their comfort zone and took some risks. Through this work the students developed an understanding of the newly discovered TRAPPIST-1 Solar System. A copy of the script can be found on the last page of the attached file. A video of our performance will be posted this week!
